High School Student and St. Joseph’s Alum Organizes Community Fundraiser to Celebrate Catholic School’s 60th Anniversary
AVONLAKE, Ohio, Aug.20, 2010 -- On Saturday, September 11th, St. Joseph Parish of Avon Lake is hosting a golf tournament and helicopter drop in celebration of St. Joseph School’s 60th anniversary.
The tournament and fundraiser will be held at the Sweetbriar Golf Course with registration starting at 7:00 am and a shotgun scramble at 8:00 am. The event is open to the public, in addition to St. Joseph parishioners.
The cost for the tournament is $125.00 per golfer or $500.00 per foursome. This price includes 18 holes of golf, a riding cart, catered lunch and various awards – such as the hole-in-one contest to win a new car from Sunnyside Toyota.
In addition to the tournament, both golfers and non-golfers can enter the Helicopter Drop which will take place during the day’s festivities. Participants can purchase one golf ball for $10, six for $50, or thirteen for $100. The golf balls will then be dropped from a helicopter above Sweetbriar Golf Course, and the owner of the ball that goes in the hole or is closest to the pin will win half of the proceeds.
"This all grew from an idea Miles Wayne of St. Ignatius had to create a community event that would bring people from St. Joseph, and anyone from Avon Lake, together for a great cause,” said Thom Schumacher, one of the event contacts. “Monies raised will go toward St. Joseph School in a year that celebrates its 60th anniversary. We're hoping to have a good combination of current and former members and graduates of St. Joseph play some golf, have some fun, win some prizes, and eat some great food all for a great cause."
Tickets for the tournament and helicopter drop can be securely purchased from the St. Joseph Parish website or by mailing a check to “St. Joseph Golf Outing, 32929 Lake Rd, Avon Lake, Ohio 44012” (checks should be made payable to St. Joseph Parish).
The St. Joseph Golf Tournament kicks off a year of events that celebrate the school’s anniversary. Upcoming events will focus on gathering school alumni, past and present parishioners and members of the community to reflect on the impact St. Joseph’s has had for the last 60 years, as well as look to its future.
