The following monthly devotions are a way to deepen your relationship with God. They are linked to special prayers, specific feast days, as well as other Catholic devotions. They are a beautiful way to focus one's prayer time in order to grow in faith.

As a new month begins, consider the following:

  • Learn the dedication's history

  • Discover a new Catholic custom

  • Pray with Scripture verses that center on the monthly theme

  • Read a spiritual book pertaining to the monthly dedication

  • Decorate a prayer space with holy objects representative of the dedication

  • Celebrate the feast day tied to the dedication

JANUARY

The Holy Name of Jesus

This devotion honors the name of Jesus, symbolizing His identity, mission and redemptive love. It is a time to reflect on the power and reverence of His name and pray for humility and holiness in our daily lives.

Scripture
Philippians 2:9-10 – "Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow."

Acts 4:12 – "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved."

FEBRUARY

The Holy Family

February is dedicated to the Holy Family, emphasizing Jesus, Mary, and Joseph as a model of love, faith and obedience. Families are encouraged to emulate their virtues and seek unity through prayer and sacrifice.

Scripture
Luke 2:51 – "Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart."

Colossians 3:23 – "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters." (Reflecting the unity and work of the Holy Family.)

MARCH

St. Joseph

St. Joseph is honored as the protector of the Church and model of humility, faith and hard work. Devotion to him encourages trust in God’s providence and dedication to serving others with love.

Scripture
Matthew 1:24 – "When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife."

Genesis 41:55 – "Go to Joseph and do what he tells you." (This passage refers to Joseph of Egypt, often seen as a prefigurement of St. Joseph as a provider and protector.)

APRIL

The Holy Eucharist

Devotion this month focuses on the real presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. We are encouraged to deepen our love for the Sacrament through Eucharistic Adoration and frequent Communion.

Scripture
John 6:53-54 – "Jesus said to them, 'Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life.'"

1 Corinthians 11:26 – "For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes."

MAY

The Blessed Virgin Mary

This month honors the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Mother of God and our spiritual mother. Devotions include praying the Rosary and imitating her virtues of humility, purity and obedience.

Scripture
Luke 1:38 – "Then Mary said, 'Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word.'"

Luke 1:42 –
"In a loud voice she exclaimed: 'Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!'"

JUNE

The Sacred Heart of Jesus

The Sacred Heart devotion celebrates Jesus’ boundless love and mercy for humanity. It is a time to meditate on His suffering and strive to return His love through acts of reparation and service.

Scripture
Matthew 11:28-29 – "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."

Ezekiel 36:26 – "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh."

JULY

The Precious Blood of Jesus

Devotion to the Precious Blood acknowledges the saving power of Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross. During the month of July, reflect on the gift of redemption and seek purification and protection through His blood.

Scripture
1 Peter 1:18-19 – "For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect."

Hebrews 9:22 – "In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness."

AUGUST

The Immaculate Heart of Mary

This devotion highlights the purity, love and compassion of Mary’s Immaculate Heart. We are invited to offer reparation for sin and consecrate ourselves to her maternal guidance.

Scripture
Luke 2:19 – "But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart."


Revelation 12:1 – "A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head."

SEPTEMBER

The Seven Sorrows of Mary

September focuses on Mary’s profound sorrows, particularly during the Passion of Christ. Meditating on her sufferings helps us grow in compassion, patience and devotion to the Cross.

Scripture
Luke 2:35 – "And a sword will pierce your own soul too" (spoken by Simeon to Mary regarding Jesus’ suffering and death).

John 19:25 – "Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene."

OCTOBER

The Holy Rosary

October honors the Rosary as a powerful prayer of reflection on the life of Jesus and Mary. We are encouraged to pray the Rosary daily to grow in faith, hope and love.

Scripture
Luke 1:28 – "The angel went to her and said, 'Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.'" (The Rosary begins with the Annunciation.)

Matthew 6:9-10 – "This, then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.'" (The Rosary includes the Our Father as a central prayer.)

NOVEMBER

The Holy Souls in Purgatory

This month is dedicated to praying for the souls in Purgatory, helping them to attain eternal rest. It is a time to offer Masses, prayers and sacrifices to assist in their purification.

Scripture
2 Maccabees 12:46 – "Thus he made atonement for the dead that they might be freed from sin." (A key verse supporting prayer for the dead.)

John 11:25-26 – "Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.'"

DECEMBER

The Immaculate Conception

December focuses on preparing hearts for the birth of Christ through Advent devotions. During this time, we are called to reflect on hope, peace and God’s promise of salvation.

Scripture
Isaiah 9:6 – "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

Romans 13:11 – "And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed."
